The club now boasts a BJC National Champion and National Silver medallist.

This is the year’s biggest Judo event for the BJC which sees many hundreds of Judokas attending to chase their national ranking. The competition is fierce from John O Groats to Landsend. The championship is based on both weight and grade with entries up to 1st Kyu and a separate Dan grade section. It all happened last weekend at Hereford.

Worsley Judo Club had three entries in Paul Bradbury, Tony Price and Andrew Kenyon. Paul lost out early on in the knock out stages, despite winning his first fight comfortably. He then went on to be beaten by the current national champion who went on to collect Gold. Unlucky, Paul, but that’s just the luck of the draw. Paul was confident he could have gone onto be placed in the medals, had he not suffered this early blow.

Tony fought in his own weight group taking Gold. Tony threw his opponent for 10 points, Ippon. This is an outright win and a very impressive throw - something we have come to expect from Tony. He also opted to fight in the senior open weight category against much bigger players at least 15kg heavier and beyond. Tony secured a bronze against some very big and very talented completion.

Andrew Kenyon who also secured Silver in the final of the Dan grade under 100kg category, Andrew fought in one of the largest categories and had some outstanding wins narrowly losing out on a referees decision to a very experienced player from Luton.

The club and its members are very proud of the results, all three players have been training extremely hard for the completion both at Worsley JC and as regular session at their sister club at Horwich leisure centre, both Alan Carlisle and Matthew Clempner the clubs senior instructors were extremely pleased with the results of their hard work, and are planning events both home and abroad for the club members in the new year.
