There was a broad spectrum of players ranging from primary grades to contest players including a guest Dan grade “Marco” from Italy. The course covered several key points of judo including, the 4 FPJ parts of a throw; Kuzushi, Tsukuri, Kake, & Nage, direction of throws, and linkage of throws. Mr Eddie Kenny 6th Dan and BJC Newcastle area representative & Technical Officer said “it’s always a pleasure to have Alan up to the Newcastle Area, all the coaches and players look forward to the course and are never disappointed with Alan tuition” The Saturday course also saw a grading held for primary grades, and Mr Kenny and Alan presented the young judoka with their new grades at the end of the course.

On Saturday evening Alan, Roger and Tony were guests at the course meal, held at a local restaurant and Judo both old and new was discussed over a fine meal and just one or two “glasses of Red”.

Sunday saw the start of the second day, with the addition of several seniors who couldn’t get time from work on the Saturday.
The class commenced with ground work and the players were put through their paces, including turnovers which were drilled until Alan, Roger & Tony were happy that they had got all the finer points.

Tony and local instructor John Crisp 5th Dan  took charge after lunch with standing judo whist  Mr Kenny, Alan & Roger Harris set about organising the senior grading for orange belt to Dan grade. The grading went very well with 2 candidates being recommended for Black Belt 1st Dan by Mr Kenny.

The course drew to a close at 3.30 with presentations and farewells till next year.

Alan is conducting a 1 day course in October for the Nottingham area, and will be coaching at the Peterborough Course in November any club members wishing to attend contact Alan or see the BJC website for details.
